Sweet Newport 100s, I completely neglected to wish Whitney Houston a happy birthday this week! That's right; the Jersey devil turned 43 on Wednesday. Let's grunt a few "Bobby"s at one another to mark the occasion, shall we?
Oh, it's a festive occasion, all right.
Of course, I like to think that she and Bobby celebrated while taking a break from putting the finishing touches on the goddamn DVDs of Season 1 of Being Bobby Brown! I ain't even playin' witchoo no more. I've been waiting for almost a year now. Honestly, I think I want Season 1 on DVD even more than I want Season 2 to start airing. I mean, don't get me wrong; Season 2 looks very entertaining.
(Major thanks to Rich of the magnificent fourfour blog for posting this to YouTube -- and for sitting through the Tyra Banks Show in the first place. You're a better man than I, Rich. And just as much of a BBB fan!)
One of the greatest things in that Season 2 preview can already be viewed, though: it's the timeless duet between Bobby and Mike Tyson that aired on the Jimmy Kimmel show for Halloween 2005. I honestly think I stopped breathing a couple times when I first saw this. It's Tyson's bobbing dance, combined with his almost mindless determination to soldier through the song, that fucking kills me every time. (Note that Bobby is off-time by the first line of the song.)
I'm also worried that Season 2 will find a more self-conscious Whitney, more concerned about her image (too late! we already know about the dootie bubble!) and less prone to participate in the wonderful randomness that marks her family's life:
But mostly, I just want to revel in those classic moments from Season 1 without going through the torment of transferring a show from TiFaux to DVD to PowerBook to editing sofware back to DVD (pausing for a couple of screen-caps along the way) -- it's just too much work to contemplate. However, if some kind of steps aren't taken to produce the official DVDs that so many fans are clamoring for, I'll eventually become desperate enough to do it. And then I'll have to put a "dootie bubble" or "just shove it in there" screen-cap on everything I touch, just to make it worth the effort. Nobody wants that.
So Happy Birthday, Miss Houston. Now get back into the editing suite!
