It's Friday, y'all. Time to downshift your brain after a grueling 4-day week and giggle like an inpatient for a while. Let me share with you some of my favorite gems from the treasure chest known as YouTube, starting with this one:
The best parts of this one are the non-"musicians": the kid who runs away at the beginning, the dude walking by who looks at the camera rather than at the band, the sound tech in shorts who checks to see if maybe there's a glitch responsible for the horrible things he's hearing (nope). The totally empty field itself cracks me up.
What's really funny is that the singer knows the song backwards and forwards; he gets all the words right (in what I think is a Scandinavian accent), all the way to the fadeout, and even nails the echoes. He just couldn't find the key with a divining rod and a tour guide. I was holding out some hope for the non-keyboard-playing musicians until I heard that plinky guitar solo. With any luck, the drummer will move on to bigger and better things and the rest of them will move on to heroin.
Of course, "The Final Countdown" is forever linked with one George Oscar Bluth II, as the song that accompanies his magic act. Here, it obscures the fine dialog and voiceover work, but I like the effect nonetheless:
This clip includes the best-ever G.O.B. magic show (and oh, yes, "The Final Countdown" is involved).
Makes me want to dive into the Season 3 DVDs my beloved surprised me with last week (thanks, J!!). In fact, what better way to spend the weekend?
Well, perhaps you haven't accepted Arrested Development as your personal savior. But I think we can all agree that this is ungodly funny:
And while we're at it, [insert diety of your choice] bless YouTube. Bless its streaming service; bless its lack of fees; and most of all, bless its many users who harvest, mix, or create awesome stuff like these videos. Have a good weekend, y'alls.
First, I just hope my ears stop bleeding. It's making a real mess.
Second, Thank you for reminding me how much I love "Arrested Development". Can't wait to see Season 3.
