(Damn, is it a slow week for everybody out there, or just me? I keep waiting for Jessica Simpson to light herself on fire or something, just to inspire my lazy ass.)

The lovely StinkyLulu will be hosting a Supporting Actress Blog-a-Thon next Sunday, January 7. I've been viewing as many movies and DVDs as possible recently, seeking out the best supporting performance from the offerings at the video store and in this rather remote outpost of the cinematic world. (I've been trying to download movies that aren't playing here anymore or have yet to open, to no avail. Serves me right, I suppose.)

Pissing on The Black Parade

I was a little concerned that the time to review My Chemical Romance's concept album had passed, but Blender just named it the best album of 2006, so I figure it's vaguely topical again.

I've been listening to The Black Parade for the past month and a half, trying to decide if I love it outright or if I've got to qualify the love somewhat. Ultimately, qualification won out; it's a great album, absolutely fantastic in parts, but the nit-picker in me can't leave certain things alone.

While this house probably wouldn't even make an appearance on one of those "Wacky Christmas Decorating" specials, and it's certainly not fodder for Ugly Christmas Lights, I'm utterly awed by the time, money and energy one of my neighbors puts into their annual holiday festival of lights. I'm not even mocking, here; I'm genuinely impressed!

Lose custody in four easy steps!

(I really should just designate a damn Britney category, shouldn't I?) Remember last month, when Brit-n-Shit split up and he filed for custody of their two kids? Remember how we all laughed and said, 'Oh, right! Like any judge is going to award custody to your scraggly ass!'

How to almost ruin "A Christmas Story"

Jason and I managed to catch most of A Christmas Story on AMC yesterday and had a lovely time re-watching it. It had been a few years since either of us had seen it; we'd both gotten a little burned out by the marathon showings of previous years. But the writing holds up, as do the performances, so it was quite enjoyable to see it again. There was just one little thing bothering me.

This is one of my borrowed-greatness posts, where I can claim no credit whatsoever for what I'm passing along to you. I didn't create this, post it, or even find it on my own... but I think you'll be interested in it nonetheless. The buffering took forever on my computer, but you'll want to stick it out to the end, trust me. There's a bit near the end that sounds like Margaret Cho's mom having a psychotic episode while slaughtering a Disney tune. It's awesome.

As my officemate put it, "Well, it says so right there: 'Marla Weiner has four friends.' No wonder."

Her? (Golden Globes edition)

The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning, and some of the nominees (and non-nominees) are real head-scratchers for me. I was a little surprised to read that Eastwood was nominated for best director twice, that Apocalypto was nominated for "foreign language picture" (does it count as a foreign language if nobody speaks it anymore -- and why are we rewarding Mel Gibson again?), and that Evangeline Lilly, Renee Zellweger and Beyonce were nominated for anything.

I stank like a skank

In which I smell like a celebrity so you don't have to.

Did you know Britney Spears now has three fragrances out? And, inexplicably, none of them smell like weed and Cheetos? (And they apparently are doing incredibly good business in spite of the absolute train wreck Britney has become?)

In the name of science, I decided to see whether these three scents lived up to their advertising and promotional descriptions and just what the hell Britney thinks we should smell like if not Cheetos and weed.

Deck the -- no, I can't

You know, some concepts should never be combined. Sometimes, two great tastes simply don't taste great together. "You got your prurient material in my holiday decorations!" "Aw, your holiday crapped all over my prurient materials!"
